Harmonising team spirit and innovation: Sweatcoin’s journey to 100% eNPS

Introduction: a holistic approach to team management

At Sweatcoin, we’ve adopted a team management approach that goes beyond traditional methods, especially in the fast-paced world of design. We believe that the well-being and happiness of our team members are just as important as their professional success. This case study looks at the various methods we used to build a strong design community, resulting in an outstanding 100% Employee Net Promoter Score (eNPS) for two years in a row.

Creating a collaborative and supportive environment

We started by building a culture that values regular feedback and collaboration. Our diverse team of 15 designers, including 9 product design experts, regularly share their work in daily design update sessions. These meetings not only keep everyone in the loop but also offer quick, constructive feedback. This approach has been key in encouraging different ways of thinking and creativity. With such a variety of backgrounds, skills, and perspectives, our team brings fresh ideas, ensuring that everyone’s input is valued, and all feedback is seen as an opportunity for growth.

Strengthening team bonds through retreats and personal interactions

In a remote work environment, face-to-face connections are crucial. We place great importance on organising team retreats to build personal connections and enhance team dynamics. In 2023, our team took part in activities like attending the Primavera Festival in Barcelona and the Electric Castle in Romania. We also held informal meet-ups in Amsterdam and official team gatherings at our Lisbon headquarters. These experiences have strengthened our relationships, creating a sense of camaraderie that goes beyond work.

Focusing on individual growth, recognition, and well-being

A key part of our management approach is celebrating each team member’s growth and success. We’ve created an environment where everyone feels valued for their unique contributions. This is supported through personalised development plans, mentoring opportunities, and regular feedback sessions tailored to each person’s career goals. We also prioritise mental health and work-life balance by offering flexible hours and mental health days to ensure a healthy balance between work and personal life.

Tri-weekly 1-on-1s: encouraging openness and support

Our tri-weekly one-on-one meetings are a key part of my management style. These sessions go beyond formal check-ins and offer a safe space for open discussions, whether they are about work or personal matters. This focus on overall well-being recognises that happy, balanced employees are naturally more motivated and productive. My role as a listener and problem solver has been crucial in fostering a supportive, caring team culture, where we are more than just colleagues – we’re a community that truly cares for each other.

Measuring success: the significance of 100% eNPS

Achieving a 100% eNPS score for two consecutive years is a clear sign of our team-focused approach’s success. It shows the deep satisfaction and sense of belonging our team members feel and highlights the effectiveness of our efforts to create a positive, fulfilling work environment. This score is not just a number – it represents the strong community we’ve built and the shared values that unite us.

Conclusion: redefining team management

My experience at Sweatcoin shows the value of a well-rounded approach to team management. By regularly providing feedback, building real-life connections, and focusing on individual well-being, we’ve achieved exceptional team morale and satisfaction. This case study is a reminder that a thriving team is built on a culture that connects its people. By focusing on team happiness and community, we’ve not only improved morale but also driven organisational success and innovation in the design industry.
